Abstract

Western culture has shaped the world’s definition of beauty through its projection of the ideal Western woman in the media, including advertisements, hollywood movies, dolls, social media, etc. The ideal woman that Western culture promotes fails to resemble the average woman, which, as a result, has negative consequences on women. These consequences include shame, depression, unhealthy eating habits, and even death. Using the format of a magazine, I examined this Western influence on women's beauty standards and found that Western culture has played a major role in creating a global definition of beauty.
